I absolutely love Pinterest as a marketing platform for entrepreneurs. There’s so much potential to drive meaningful traffic to your website. And that’s all done through outbound clicks.
When someone clicks on your pin, they’re redirected to a URL on your website. And as a platform with millions of users, that could be a significant amount of people visiting your website!
Like any other platform, you need a Pinterest strategy to get those kinds of results. And sometimes, our plans and strategies don’t pan out. We put in all this effort only to get no outbound clicks or visits to our website. Bummer!
So, let’s address the issue and find out why you aren’t getting any outbound clicks on Pinterest.
PIN FOR LATER
Once you identify the issue, you can work on fixing it! Some issues are quick fixes, and others might take some time to implement. Either way, the solution can help you get more eyes on your website from Pinterest!
Pinterest is a seasonal platform. It goes through highs and lows throughout the year and it’s completely normal to see a slight decline in your analytics sometimes.
It’s going to depend on your niche, but generally, November, December, and summer are the slowest months for people unless you have holiday, travel, or vacation-type content. If you do have seasonal content, it’s best to start pinning it 2-3 months before it would trend so the algorithm has time to categorize it.
Seasonality can cause a drop in outbound clicks or a really big increase!
Consistency is important for every marketing activity, and Pinterest is no different! Even though Pinterest recommends pinning several times a day, focus on quality over quantity. Quality is what will earn you new outbound clicks. Use Tailwind to schedule your Pinterest content ahead of time so you can be strategic with your pins and not worry about pinning something new every day.
You could be caught in the spam filter if you see steep drops in your analytics. Pinterest has flagged your content or account as spam, so your reach, impressions, and engagement tanks.
These are some reasons why you might be flagged as spam:
If you think you’ve been flagged as spam by mistake, contact Pinterest support to request a review.
If you’re relying on outdated strategies, you probably aren’t getting the results you want from Pinterest. Algorithms constantly change to adapt to the user’s needs, so your strategies need to adapt as well.
Here are some old strategies that don’t work anymore:
Maybe your content needs to be refreshed and updated. Sometimes, your audience just doesn’t respond to your content. Try updating your pin graphics, keyword strategy, and descriptions to resonate with your audience.
It might also be a more significant issue if you aren’t creating content your audience is interested in at all. For example, you might have written a blog about a topic and tried promoting it on Pinterest. It could be an issue with the blog topic rather than just getting low engagement on Pinterest. Always create content with your audience in mind!
Linking to domains other than the one tied to your account can cause issues. Pinterest prefers to promote your own content tied to your domain. Linking to other websites could be seen as spam and decrease your reach and impressions.
This is one of the first things I do for clients when I set up their accounts!
Hopefully, by now, you’ve discovered why you aren’t getting outbound clicks on Pinterest. Try to fix the issue before putting more time and effort into Pinterest so you don’t waste it! When you’re ready, come back to these quick best practices to increase clicks to your website.
Whew! I know those were some quick tips. Following these best practices gives you the best chance of earning high-quality traffic from Pinterest. And who doesn’t want that?!
